Cartoon Cartoon!

It's been a while, and a few things have happened.

1) I started work at Vivendi Games as a QA Tester at the end of April. I was pretty burned out on QA, but I desperately needed a job, and Vivendi were the only people willing to hire me, despite me sending off 10 resumes a day.

The job is typical QA, and all of the BS it entails, but I don't hate the work, and it's simple enough; get paid to play video games all day.

2) Me and the guys finally had our pitch with Cartoon Network last Wednesday, the 18th of June.

We pitched three shows: The Adventures of Far-Fig Newton Boy, SteamPunk Academy, and We The Fairy Three.

The executive we met with was Brian Jones, who is the man in charge of Action/Adventure series for the network.

He said he'll pass We The Fairy Three onto the comedy department, as that's their forte, and he was interested in more material for Figboy.

He absolutely LOVED SteamPunk Academy, and wants us to write him up a treatment and send him whatever artwork we have for it.

The ironic thing, is that we weren't even going to pitch SteamPunk, so we didn't have any print outs to give to him. Fortunately, I put some drawings on my PSP, and brought my sketchbook with me.

As we talked about the show with him, I would show him the art, and he was very responsive to the idea as a whole. He really enjoyed the subject material, and the character dynamics of our five protagonists, and their supporting cast.

The best thing about the whole pitch is that he wants us to make SteamPunk a darker show, which is what we wanted to do all along, but were holding back, because we thought we were pitching the show to the 6-11 year old demographic.

They are gearing the network more towards the 9-14 age range, and would like darker, more mature shows. This, is our specialty, so we're really excited about that.

All in all, the pitch went better than we expected. I mean, for them to like just one of our ideas would have been amazing, but the fact that they loved all THREE of them is phenomenal.

Nothing is set in stone, and anything can happen, and our chickens haven't hatched yet, but I have a good feeling that SteamPunk Academy will be the show they ultimately pick up. Fingers, toes, and everything else are suitably crossed.

At the moment, me and guys are working on rewriting our previous treatment for SteamPunk, and I'm working on redesigning the characters to a slightly older, more teenager look.

I'll post the art here as it's done, as well as any updates in the next few weeks.
